As a full boarding school, every day at Fettes is vibrant and fun-filled, with something for everyone, and that includes the weekends!
A typical weekend at Fettes will include lessons on Saturday morning, followed by a wide variety of sporting fixtures or House competitions, on Saturday afternoon. After tea, on Saturday, the evenings activities range from whole-school barbeques and ceilidhs (all students at Fettes learn how to Scottish country dance!) to smaller in-House activities such as a pizza and film night, a theatre or cinema trip or a social event with one of the other Houses. Day students are encouraged to stay on and fully participate in weekend activities, if they wish to do so, and most of our day students chose to be part of the fun, with all their friends!
A lie-in on Sunday morning can be followed by a late brunch and the option to get involved in the outdoor activities programme. This includes activities such Munro bagging, hill-walking (or running) in the local Pentland hills, sailing, kayaking, white water rafting, golfing, horse-riding, a trip to Go Ape or a day out in the Highlands. Our locations means it is also possible to take a short walk to Murrayfield Stadium to watch a rugby international, before some quiet time on Sunday evening. Weekends also offer an opportunity to just relax with friends, cycle in our 100-acre campus, or read a book / listen to music or spend some time with family.
Life at Fettes is very busy but throughout the day, time is always built in for socialising with friends or simply sitting quietly and chilling out. Whilst there are a wide range of activities and events on a Sunday, this is the one full day of the week when students can relax and decide on the pace that best suits them. Many, as they get older, take this opportunity to head in to Edinburgh for some shopping, a meal or cinema / museum / gallery visit, making the most of our central location.
“I love the sense of community and being around my friends all the time.” ... "I live around the corner but I choose to be here, with my friends."
