As our city welcomes the start of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2024 we look back at some of the highlights of piping and drumming at Fettes College over the course of this year.
Piping and Drumming is thriving, not only at Fettes but worldwide and our Pipe Band has the opportunity to perform at Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace as well as Beating Retreat on our Queen's Lawn.
The Fettes College Pipe Band are the current holders of the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships Junior A Trophy. In addition to competitions, international tours, and functions outside school, the Prep Pipe Band, Senior Pipe Band and individual pipers perform at every major occasion during the school year.
Piping and drumming tuition is available to students of all ages in Senior School. Complete beginners are most welcome, as are those who have already started to learn piping and drumming at their previous school. Piping is taught by our Head of Piping and Drumming, Cameron Drummond and Alasdair Henderson. Snare Drumming is taught by Jim Walker and Bass and Tenor by Sarah Staub.
If a new student joining Fettes already plays pipes or drums and wishes to make a great start with piping and drumming at Fettes College, we are more than happy to send the Band’s repertoire so practice can be done in advance of the new school term.
Piping & Drumming News
Our Pipe Band have had a terrific week in May, participating in events at both Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace.
Well done to all our pipers and drummers.
A great night of piping and drumming when eighty pipers and drummers had the chance to put themselves through their paces, represent their houses and battle it out for prizes and house points in front of our esteemed judges.
