Music is everywhere at Fettes. Rarely do you walk around the corridors of Fettes without hearing music - the Chapel organ, instrumental practice, choir rehearsals or a snippet of a singing lesson.

With the majority of our students taking instrumental lessons, there are three orchestras and four choirs, informal coffee concerts alongside invitational performances at places such as St Giles' Cathedral. Led by Mr Angus Tully, Director of Music, we have the expertise and passion to guide our students in whatever direction their talents take them - from classical to choral, rock to jazz, traditional music to musical theatre.

In 2016 our fantastic Culachy Music School was opened, with a Recital Hall which houses a Steinway Grand Piano. Our Music IT Suite accommodates iMac computers (with Sibelius and Logic Audio Pro). Plus 15 teaching rooms, recording studio, drum studio and music library.

Rehearsals generally take place in times not used by academic lessons and these groups often have priority over other school activities. Apart from the enjoyment of being a part of a large team, such groups are recognised by many people, including universities, as demonstrating commitment, concentration, discipline and teamwork.

“Music permeates its way through life at Fettes, enriching the daily lives of all our students. There is a place for all tastes and space for all performers to grow, experience and learn.”
