Music is everywhere at Fettes. Rarely do you walk around the corridors of Fettes without hearing music - the Chapel organ, instrumental practice, choir rehearsals or a snippet of a singing lesson.

At Fettes, we have a great number of orchestras, chamber groups and choirs, where all our students are encouraged to learn a musical instrument. Many students take advantage of instrumental lessons from our team of visiting instructors. These opportunities allow our students to enjoy practical and collaborative music-making at its best. Led by Mr Angus Tully, Director of Music, we have the expertise and passion to guide our students in whatever direction their talents take them: from baroque to classical, rock to jazz, Scottish traditional music to choral and musical theatre.

In 2016 our fantastic Culachy Music School was opened, with a Recital Hall which houses a Steinway Grand Piano. Our Music IT Suite accommodates iMac computers (with Sibelius and Logic Audio Pro). Plus 15 teaching rooms, recording studio, drum studio and music library.

A spacious, well-lit hallway with a wooden floor and paneled walls, featuring a grand piano and three musicians performing in the foreground.

Rehearsals take place in times not used by academic lessons and these groups often have priority over other school activities. Apart from the enjoyment of being a part of a large team, such groups are recognised by many people, including universities, as demonstrating commitment, concentration, discipline and teamwork.

“Music permeates its way through life at Fettes, enriching the daily lives of all our students. There is a place for all tastes and space for all performers to grow, experience and learn.”

Angus Tully Director of Music
