To give the Middle School years (age 13 – 15) distinction and to provide balance to the student’s academic programme we created our bespoke Middle School Diploma.

Consisting of four components (Community; Creativity and Curiosity; Wellbeing; and Communication) plus the unique Fettes Passport, this resource supports every student to make the most of the wide range of opportunities at Fettes and to unlock their potential, while cultivating soft skills which instil our students with the emotional intelligence to thrive in the modern world.

In line with our vision, this qualification promotes the key characteristics of a Fettesian - knowing themselves, looking out for others, thinking critically and ready to make a positive mark on their rapidly changing world.

Supported by an online dashboard, it allows achievements to be recognised and measured, while providing space for reflection. Students are encouraged to try new things outside their comfort zone and be willing to take risks. There is a competitive element too, as students go after a Gold, Silver or Bronze qualification.

Central to the Diploma are good organisational skills and the importance of not only focusing on academic success but on personal growth and resilience. Recognising the skills learned are just as important in today’s world as exam grades. This resource is designed to stretch and measure skills outside the classroom, setting our students up for Sixth Form and life beyond the school years.

"The Fettes College Middle School Diploma was short-listed in the 2024 Education Business Awards -  Education Resource (Secondary) category. "

Our bespoke qualification

This comprehensive programme exceeds traditional academic benchmarks, embracing a holistic approach that encompasses academic achievement, character development, organisational skills and community engagement.

“Fettes is more than just a school, it’s a place that generates memories and experiences that shapes character. This unique qualification recognises and measures students’ achievements outside the classroom and encourages each individual to ‘Aim high and Give back'."
