All children benefit from being in a boarding school, even if they do not board.
The length of day means that day children and boarders are experiencing a diverse and rich education, and our boarders add to the family feel of the school. Our boarding model is rare in Prep Schools in that it is exclusively full boarding that we offer, although there are opportunities for day children to try boarding... if we have space!
Our Houses are home from home for our boarders and the pride they have in their House is evident, nurtured by our outstanding team of House staff. Boarding is a partnership between parents and House staff, and we work hard to ensure parents feel fully involved from the start.

"Fettes Prep has surpassed our expectations. Our son has taken to the school and boarding House like a duck to water. We and he could not be happier."

Mr Richard Mill
I feel very privileged to be entrusted with the care and welfare of your children at this most important stage of their development and to play a part in inspiring them to grow into good, honest, young men. It is incredibly uplifting to live so close to the heart of the spectacular city of Edinburgh, surrounded by the natural beauty of the sea and hills. My aim is for us all to enjoy our time together in this wonderful environment, to be respectful of each other and work as hard as possible to be the best version of ourselves. The boarding team and I encourage the boys to join in with all of the activities and opportunities that Fettes has to offer. It is our hope that the experience and skills learnt with us will continue to be of use when they move on to the next chapter of their lives, and will leave Arran equipped with wonderful memories and with the attributes of respect and humility.

It is my absolute pleasure to be Houseparent of Iona House, a fun and friendly home from home for the girls. Having worked as a Matron in one of the senior school houses here at Fettes College, before taking on this role in 2021, I have had many years of experience in caring for and encouraging boarding pupils, which I greatly enjoy. During my time at Fettes, I have learned that pupils get the most out of school life when they are fully involved and I encourage the girls in my care to seize opportunities when they come along and to feel supported to try new things that they have never done before, just in case they enjoy them! The words “What I love most about my home is who I share it with,” are the words on a poster in my office and I feel this perfectly sums up life in a boarding house – we are one big community, looking out for each other and having fun together, which is great.
