S Form travelled to the Sky Up Academy studios in Livingstone, to bring together studies in IT (research skills and digital media) as well as Drama (presenting and interviewing skills) with a touch of Humanities and Science thrown in to produce a news report on the topic of plastic pollution.

Ahead of the visit they had been split into four teams and collaborated to carry out research in their IT lessons, making sure to check the validity of their facts and the sources they were using.

On arrival at Sky Up, they elected a Producer for each group who then shared out jobs to the rest of their team, thinking about what qualities each role would require. Once Directors, Editors, Cameramen, Script Writers, Presenters, Reporters, Eye Witnesses and Experts were allocated the S Form TV crews made their way into the studio area.

Each of the four teams had its own green screen studio with a professional camera, sound and editing equipment and an expert from Sky Up to help. Facts were checked, scripts written and loaded into iPads for prompts and it was time to select background footage for their recordings and get the on-screen talent through the process of wardrobe fitting! After a few run throughs the ‘on air’ signs lit up red and recording started.

Footage from all four studios was stitched together, intro footage and credits added and it was time for a watch party. Much glee ensued as the finalised footage was revealed and the pupils were thrilled with the results. All pupils were given a code to watch their report back and share with family, the rest of the school will have the delights of watching in an assembly soon.
