Thirty-three very excited Prep School pupils gathered at 3.45 am on Saturday 8th February for our much-anticipated ski trip to Passo del Tonale, in Northern Italy. Unfortunately, our flight via Brussels caused a delay in the arrival of all the luggage, so the first day was spent walking up the beautiful glacier and getting our skis and boots fitted. Undaunted, the group made the very best of it!

We were very excited to see our luggage which arrived before breakfast on Monday morning and we set about getting ready for our first ski day. Ironically, the weather was against us with low visibility. However, the whole group hit the slopes no matter, and had a great first day!

Each day started with a hearty and delicious breakfast, which included croissants and cakes, much to the delight of all! Our hotel was perfectly located immediately opposite the slopes, so as soon as breakfast was over, we collected our skis and headed out. Each day we returned to the hotel for a filling lunch before the afternoon ski session.

The beginners group had Italian instructor called Ivo, who was amazing! He got the group up onto the blue runs as soon as possible, which gave them plenty of slopes to practise on. Andy, Jo and Gonzalo from Snowtraxx International took the intermediate, advanced intermediate and advanced groups. We all had plenty of fun with our instructors and learnt so much along the way. It was great to see the leaps in confidence and technique that all of our pupils made.

Our evening activities included swimming, ice skating, sledging, pizza night, shopping and movie night. We also managed to find time to fit in ice cream and hot chocolate stops.

Friday came around amazingly quickly and after enjoying a final day of skiing, we headed for another quick trip to the shops to buy presents for our instructors and families with what was left with our euros.  We were very proud to receive certificates at the end of the week and enjoyed handing out gifts to our amazing instructors.

We would like to thank the Snowtraxx International staff for their support.  The staff at the Hotel Dolomitti could not have been kinder and the food they produced for us all was delicious.

Finally, a big thank you must go to the Fettes Staff. To Mrs Scott for all of her organisation and Mr Mill, Mrs Brathwaite, Miss Stanley and Miss MacPherson for their help in the smooth running of this trip.

Grazie Mille, Passo del Tonale! We had a wonderful time!
