On Friday 13th December, the day after term ended, Mrs Scott, Mrs Edwards, Miss Younger and Mr Leadbetter took a group of 32 pupils to Strasbourg.

We arrived at our hotel late in the afternoon and once everyone had settled into their rooms, we had our evening meal in the restaurant. There was a good choice of starters, main dishes and desserts at every meal and the food was delicious!

After breakfast on Saturday morning, we visited the Schaal chocolate factory and museum. The visit started with a chocolate tasting session and finally ended in the shop, where we had to make some difficult choices!

We had lunch at our hotel, then took a river boat cruise on the canal around Strasbourg. We saw some wonderful sights and the commentary told us a lot about the city. Once back at the hotel, we had our evening meal and played games.

On Sunday morning, we visited the world-famous Christmas markets. There were so many things to see and buy, from gingerbread and Bredele (Alsatian biscuits) to beautiful Alsatian pottery and Christmas decorations.

In the afternoon, we visited the magnificent cathedral, Notre Dame de Strasbourg. We were very lucky to have a personal tour, led by one of the canons of the cathedral. This was followed by a visit to a part of Strasbourg called La Petite France. Our tour was organised and led by a friendly local, Nicolas, who was very knowledgeable about the area. We ended our day with a visit to the ice rink in Place Kléber, where many pupils showed off some amazing skills!

On Monday, before leaving Strasbourg, we walked to a local restaurant called Flam’s, where everyone made their own Flammekueche (or Tarte Flambée) under the direction of the cook. This was a lovely way to round off our trip, before having to head for the airport and say, ‘Au revoir!’ to France.
