Some of us stayed in house for this Recommended Leave and enjoyed a boarding family weekend together. It has been a busy start back to school, so the plan for Friday morning was a lie in and leisurely in-house breakfast for both houses. After a relaxing morning, we took a stroll to nearby Stockbridge for a little retail therapy, where we enjoyed checking out the shops and chatting to each other as we walked in the sunshine. In the evening we settled down to a film and tuck before heading to bed to catch up on some much-needed sleep.

On Saturday morning we set off to Craigleith Retail Park, which is just a short drive away. Here we stocked up on tuck and other essential items to see us through the rest of term. After lunch we excitedly clambered into the minibus for the short journey to the big screen cinema at Ocean Terminal. We were all really looking forward to the film but unfortunately it was truly awful and super loud; thank goodness for the popcorn! In the evening, Mrs Nicol, Housemistress of Arniston, one of our College girls’ houses, invited us to toast marshmallows around their fire pit. Mr Mill bought his guitar along and we enjoyed gooey marshmallows and a good old sing song.

On Sunday, we got stuck into a few activities which included an impromptu fitness session and a clear out of the small kitchen garden outside of Arran, which we are readying for the next planting session. We then all joined forces in the Arran kitchen and under Mrs Scott’s supervision cooked a sumptuous Roast Lunch. This consisted of roast chicken, roast potatoes, honeyed carrots, roast parsnips, steamed savoy cabbage, cauliflower, homemade Yorkshire puddings and gravy! Amazingly, after all of this, we still had space for pudding and tucked into our homemade oaty apple crumble (with yummy apples donated by Mr Morris) and ice cream. It is fair to say we were all very full at the end of this feast!

We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Scott and Mr Mill for making our Leave weekend such a fun one; we had a really lovely time with our boarding families.
