Despite the distance, our music lessons, both class and individual, have been a success and we've enjoyed the many clips of performances sent in from pupils. Our musicians have continued to dedicate time to their music practice, and we were delighted to hear the wonderful news that Hannah and Henry have both been awarded Music Scholarships at the Senior School.
For their class lessons, 2nd Form pupils have been exploring ostinato patterns and drones in music. They have studied 'The Rhythm of The Heat' by Peter Gabriel and invented their own pieces based on the repeated ostinato patterns and drone used in the song. Solveig created a really effective piece with some especially strong rhythms.
Jemima was a winner in the Edinburgh Competition Festival in 2020 and has been asked to submit 'Where is Love' for the 2021 online Prizewinners' Concert. We have attached a short clip of Jemima’s performance.
In our current online lives we all have those few moments when we’re waiting for the start of a Teams call. For our music staff these may be spent on last minute lesson checks or simply finishing that cup of coffee. Miss Simpson, one of our violin teachers, has found inspiration from that familiar Teams ringtone and created her own wonderful musical improvisation which we thought you’d like to see and hear!
