On Saturday 14th January we celebrated the National Bard (and the end  of Upper Sixth Form exams) with an early Burns Supper.

Pipe Major Will F piped in the haggis, which was addressed with style and eloquence  by Jove T.  This was followed by beautiful renditions of ‘Sweet Afton’ and ‘Ae fond kiss’ by Nandita G and Thomas E.

Head of Politics Mr McDowell, who chaired the evening’s proceedings, gave the Immortal Memory, which was followed by a set from our fantastic pipers: Pipe Major Will F, Pipe Sergeant Fiona C, Fraser W,  Leo T, and Oscar T. They had everyone cheering and foot-tapping as they performed a truly excellent medley.

Teachers of English, Mr Archibald and Miss Palmer gave the toast to the lassies and the reply respectively, both setting a high standard with their humour and acute observations of the male and female Fettesian.

This was followed by a rendition of Tam O’Shanter by Lower Sixth Form students Elise A, Mehar K, Clemmie B, Iona C, Ione D, Iona McN, Lena R, Georgie D, Edward M, Thomas E, Betty J, Max C, Edo F and Lizzi W.

The evening concluded with Mr McDowell thanking  the performers and all those who made the evening possible, and a vigorous rendition of ‘Auld Lang Syne.’
