Hockey Round-up

On Saturday 3rd October we played our first full block of fixtures of the term against George Heriots with nine teams involved in matches being played at Fettes and Goldenacre. This was an exciting day as it was the first time a number of our new 3rd Form had worn the magenta shirts and represented Fettes and it was a very competitive and closely contested set of matches.

The 1st XI which included Fiona C, Liv B and Maria M who were all representing the 1st XI for the first time, had an excellent tight game. The score wasn't in our favour (1-0) mid-way through the first half but the team responded brilliantly, scoring almost immediately with Marissa M following an outstand touch and pass from player of the match Jessica A. This was also the first time Soufia C led the team out as captain with Izzy U as vice-captain.

Both the 2nd XI and U14A games were exciting, however sadly both teams narrowly lost 3-4. Highlights included a hattrick for Isabella A for the U14A  and excellent performances from Jasmine L and Caty S.

Over at Goldenacre the 3rd XI started off their season with a well deserved 1-0 win and this was followed up by a great win for the U15A team with Holly G leading by example as captain and Eva B and Ione D both very influential in the win. Mr Russell described Pippa K’s performance in goal as one of the best he had ever seen.

The U14B started off their Fettes hockey careers with a very hard fought 2-1 win and Mrs Muddiman was delighted with the whole team’s performance.

The U15Cs sadly lost ( 0-4) but it was tough game on grass due to the weather.  The team never stopped working and Clemmie B made some excellent saves in goal.

The final game at Goldenacre was a 0-0 draw for the U15B team. Earlier in the week they had a heavy loss to MES and this performance showed real resilience and demonstrated how much they had learnt and defended very well. The final game of the day was the 4th XI who had a brilliant 2-0 win. Ella S carved through the Heriots midfield and Jessica N was a rock at the back.

The torrential rain did not dampen the spirit of the Fettes girls and these were a hugely enjoyable set of fixtures. Please click here to see more photos of the games.
