The choice of ‘Guys and Dolls’, a dynamic and ever-popular musical, proved just right, bringing a joyous celebration of acting, singing and dancing. The cast and crew worked incredibly hard from the start of the academic year to piece together a fantastic performance, transporting us to a stylised 1950s New York where streets were full of the hustle and bustle of the city, with gamblers and gangsters rubbing shoulders with Salvation Army Missionaries and chances to save souls, make money or find lasting love in the air.

Over six superb nights, the cast and crew of 53 students worked collaboratively to produce a truly ensemble performance in which everyone played a significant role, as in previous years our principal roles were split between two casts and these lead performances were simply phenomenal. Significant plaudits go to Jove T and Chloe F (L6th Form) as Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Sofia E and Jamielia S (L6th Form) as Benny Southstreet, Thomas E (5th Form) and Alex F (L6th Form) as Sky Masterson, Vanessa C (4th Form) and Anna-Marie R (L6th Form) as Sarah Brown, Onari B (L6th Form) and Delilah P (U6th Form) as Miss Adelaide, and Kai L(L6th Form) as Nathan Detroit.

Head of Co-Curricular Drama and Teacher of English, Mr Jenkins says: “Putting on a Musical in any normal Fettes year is hard work for all involved; negotiating the same challenge within a pandemic has been even more demanding, but Theatrical Performance is essentially about devising a collaborative way through obstacles – and we have managed it.

“It has been hugely rewarding to bring back to Fettes a little bit of the stage magic that comes from live theatre – we can’t wait for the next one!”

This would not have been possible without a great deal of support and so grateful thanks go to the Estates Department, for returning the Theatre to its natural state; the Art Department for last minute artistic flourishes; Mr Weatherby and his front of house team; Ms Hall and the Costume Team; Mrs C Harrison and the Stage Crew.

Well done to everyone!
