On Thursday 4th November the Fettes College Classics Department welcomed 113 First Form pupils and their teachers from Cargilfield, Ardvreck, Belhaven Hill and Fettes Prep Schools to Fettes College for our annual Classics Day.

Pupils had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities: examining ancient pottery and recreating mythological scenes, creating a huge mosaic, learning how to fight like a Roman centurion and listening to a mythological story teller. One of the highlights of the day was certainly the Roman Feast, hosted by our excellent catering department.

The final activity was a fast paced vocabulary challenge – each school had two vocabulary champions who competed against each other in three hotly contested rounds.

We hope that the day allowed the pupils to engage in the Classical World beyond their usual curriculum and lessons, and will enthuse and motivate them to continue with their classical studies for years to come.
