On Saturday 14th January, Fettes and Strathallan had a fantastic day of badminton, basketball and hockey fixtures taking place both home and away.

In badminton the boys won their singles and doubles matches. Despite a strong performance by the girls they missed out on a win. The mixed doubles matches were evenly matched. A group of boys played their first matches for the school, and everyone managed to play some good some good, competitive games. It was a fun event, and the teams are looking forward to a rematch later this term.

In a terrific basketball match, Fettes held the lead by half time but after a closely fought second half the reversed lead saw a win for Strathallan.

This term’s first boy’s hockey block fixture also took place on Saturday with matches against Strathallan. The 1st and 2nd XI travelled up to Perthshire for two very closely contested games. The 2nd XI continued their unbeaten record with a 4-2 win, and the 1st XI finished with a 1-1 draw. Fettes hosted four junior fixtures, all of which were very competitive, in particular the Colts A match where the Fettes side won 4-3. The Colts B team managed a 1-1 draw which reflected the back-and-forth game they played. The Junior Colts A and B teams achieved 2-0 and 3-1 wins respectively.

Four senior netball teams also travelled to Strathallan where many of the 45 girls played their first fixture of the term.  As with all fixtures against Strathallan,  this was closely competitive.  The 1st VII lost narrowly in a great fixture with strong play from both teams, with  the 2nds, 3rds and 4ths recording excellent wins.

Overall, it was a fantastic day of sports. Well done to all who took part, and thanks go to Strathallan for hosting our away fixtures.
