Saturday 7th November was a record breaking day for Fettes hockey as fifteen hockey fixtures took place – the most fixtures ever played in one day. It was also the first time we had ever been able to field an U14D team. The full block of morning fixtures against George Watsons College included two boys fixtures with the 1st XI and Colts taking to the field for the first time this season. In the afternoon there were two more boys fixtures with the 2nd XI and Colts taking on Merchiston.

The highlights of the day were a brilliant 2-0 win for Mr Harrison’s U14A team and a brilliant 1-1 draw for the U14B team. Our U14D had a brilliant first match only going down 1-3 to a strong GWC side. On the McMurray the 1st XI girls came up against a very strong GWC side losing 4-0 but took a great deal of confidence from a very positive second half performance. Both goalkeepers Lou T (1st half) and Chidaro N (2nd half)  had excellent games and captain Soufia C was outstanding.

The 2nd XI had a 1-1 thriller with Mr Talbot and Mrs Mill agreeing it was one of the best games of 2nd XI hockey they had seen. Zara W and Zuena K were very dynamic upfront and Sasha M and Adelaide W lead from the back.

The 1st XI boys played a fast paced and end-to-end game vs Watsons with both goalkeepers being required to make some crucial saves. Captain Olly P scored a lovely goal and vice-captain Temi A scored an excellent rebound and possibly his first ever goal for the 1st XI. Debutant Marcus P had an excellent game as half back and the midfield duo of Archie S and Matthew H controlled the game from the middle of the pitch.

In the afternoon an U18 side took on Merchiston in a physical and highly competitive game. Some of the  younger 1st XI players doubled up and played in the afternoon and special mention to Fraser M had a strong performance in centre midfield scoring two well taken goals and Magnus H who scored a lovely baseline goal. Sam W controlled the game from full back and Boris B looked dangerous in midfield. It was a successful day for our Colts who recorded two wins against Watsons and then Merchiston in the afternoon scoring some lovely team goals.

It was a hugely enjoyable day of hockey with over 200 pupils representing the school in a very competitive set of fixtures.
