Prep Field Day 2021

We have all enjoyed a fantastic day of activities today which have taken us from our campus to Edinburgh Zoo, Inchcolm Island, Portobello Beach and Edinburgh Old Town.

M and P Form spent the morning engaging in two virtual workshops with Edinburgh Zoo, finding out about endangered species and gaining a behind the scenes view of life at the zoo. They then collected their packed lunches, jumped on a coach, and headed for an afternoon at the zoo where they were able to see a huge variety of animals.

S Form spent their Field Day on Inchcolm Island. Their adventure started at South Queensferry where they boarded the ferry for the beautiful 40-minute trip to the island. Once they disembarked, they had time to explore Inchcolm Abbey, visit the Hermit’s Cell and discover the numerous wartime fortifications.

T Form used the local bus service to get to Portobello Beach where they took part in sponsored activities to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care. Their litter pick was just one initiative that the pupils engaged in with great enthusiasm, and they were treated to a pizza lunch to keep their energy levels high.

1st Form were on campus this time around and took part in several outdoor adventures. Having split into groups, they learnt about fire lighting techniques before putting these into practice and cooking their very own s’mores. They went on to build bird boxes for the grounds, and take part in zorbing and archery activities.

Finally, 2nd Form walked from school to Edinburgh Old Town on a history tour that included some of Edinburgh's colourful history and a visit to Mary King’s Close where they could see for themselves how the residents of the close lived in the 17th century!
