The Fettes Prep Choir tour was an incredible performance opportunity for the 43 excited singers and 6 teachers who boarded the plane to Bordeaux on 1st July.
It wasn’t all practises & performances but an opportunity to relax after a long, intense term too. On the first day, we headed off to Aqualand water park where we had a wonderful time whizzing down contorted gravity defying slides at great speed! After lunch we visited the awe inspiring Dune du Pilat, the largest sand dune in Europe. The sheer scale stopped us all in our tracks and a lot of fun was had dashing and sliding up and down this incredible mass of sand. The view from the top treated us to lush green forests on one side and the sparkling azure blue Atlantic Ocean on the other.
Next up was a visit to Bordeaux with some casual shopping and our first concert in Abbatiale Saint-Croix. The children sang their hearts out to a large and appreciative audience in this beautiful church.
The next day, we headed to the picture postcard village of Saint-Émilion for a picnic and some souvenir shopping, followed by our visit to the equally beautiful town of Bergerac for a rehearsal before our second concert. The temperature soared to over 36 degrees, but our young musicians excelled themselves with another outstanding performance to an audience of over 250 people. A special mention must go to our soloists and pipers who performed with such aplomb in both concerts.
Our final day started with a swim and games at a lake to cool off, followed by a three course lunch in Bordeaux and a boat trip on the Garonne river giving us another perspective on this wonderful city. The children had plenty of opportunities to practise their French and our delightful tour guide Angélique gave us lots of fascinating insights as we travelled around.
We arrived back to the Prep School buzzing with stories of our exciting adventures in France. Merci a tous!
