Arran House Challenge and Iona House Adventure

Iona House

For our Summer Term Iona Adventure, we headed south of the border for a couple of nights.

Our first stop was Northumberland County Zoo, where the highlight for all was the visit to the lemur enclosure. After an ice cream and a play at the park (who doesn’t love a swing!), we set off for our wild camping experience. The grass was long, the thistles a plenty and the facilities basic, but the setting was beautiful and the sun continued to shine, so we pitched our tents, played some games and paddled in the river while we waited for our delicious BBQ supper, which was followed by one or two toasted marshmallows.

Armed with torches we headed for our tents, but with it being close to the longest day, darkness took a while to arrive and didn’t last long! After a tasty breakfast of sausage, eggs and even toast cooked on the fire, we packed up and set off for our next destination – the beach. The sun made another appearance which was fabulous, but the North Sea was still a little on the chilly side, however, there were a few brave souls who ventured in for a splash about. While at the beach we also came to the aid of a lady who had lost her keys on the beach – the girls walked the beach in a row with eyes peeled and sure enough they were found. Good team work, girls!

That evening we stayed in Alnwick Hostel, where everyone was delighted to find hot showers! After tea, we paid a visit to Barter Books and then played ‘Minute to Win It’ in teams – featuring games such as; cereal box jigsaw, dice stacking with chopsticks and many more.

This was a truly super weekend, which was made even better by the fantastic weather.

Arran House

The Arran family enjoyed a weekend of sailing on a big yacht through the waters of the Firth of Lorne on Saturday. On Sunday, they cruised through the world’s third biggest whirlpool, The Corryvreckan, on a high-powered RIB. In the afternoon, the boys enjoyed a white-water rafting experience down the River Awe in brilliant sunshine! It was such a fantastic weekend full of laughter, team spirit and challenge.
