A Midsummer Night's Dream

This year’s 1st and 2nd Form Production, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is our contemporary take on a classic story, which we chose to perform as a play within a play.

First, we meet The Trudy Theatre Company, (somewhat lacking in professional polish), the warring ice cream and popcorn sellers, the competitive ushers and the Dreamers, a band on tour.

Next on stage are the Shakespeare Company, on a national tour with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. They are very dismissive of the Narrator Collective whose role is to support them and additionally, to further the understanding of The Chatsworth School, who are experiencing their first ever Shakespeare performance.

The Athenian Kingdom leads the Midsummer Night’s Dream performance. Theseus, the Duke, is getting married but his celebrations are interrupted by the cranky Egeus, whose daughter, Hermia, won’t marry his desired choice of groom. Best friends, Helena and Hermia are struggling because Helena loves Demetrius but he loves Hermia, while Hermia loves Lysander.

The magical Fairies, also at war, arrive on stage next! One of the fairy team, Puck, plants love potion on the humans in the forest, just to further complicate their lives! As if all this isn’t tricky enough, we then come across The Mechanicals, who want to put a play on for the Duke’s wedding, despite not being the most talented of performers!

Add a donkey’s head, a lover’s fight, plenty of laughs and the result is a rollicking three evenings of entertainment!

Many congratulations to all of 1st and 2nd Form for this wonderful production and congratulations to Mrs McGrath and her huge team of helpers for three fabulous nights of fun.
