1st and 2nd Form production of Macbeth

1st and 2nd Form pupils wowed us with their interpretation of Macbeth, chosen by our Director of Drama, Mr Martin-Nye, as an exercise in creative stimulation and student empowerment. Our pupils were involved in all aspects of the creative process, from the early design phase though rehearsals and into the performances. The classes have learnt about direction and play development, with many ideas finding their way into the final production. The dancers, while supported by professional staff, largely developed the choreography themselves. The lighting crew were trained by suppliers, Blacklight, and a team of four were the key technicians for the show.

All of the pupils had a course in the basics of stage make-up so that they could take ownership of the design and application of their own and each other’s make-up for the production.

Productions such as these are a huge team effort and we owe thanks to so many. We benefited from the creative and professional input of Mrs Bremner, stage designer extraordinaire, and of course Mrs Weatherby and her team of helpers who produced the stunning costumes; so much attention to detail on both their behalves ensured that the production was a visual feast.

Where would we have been without the help of the production team? A special mention here to Mr Martin-Nye, Mrs Quaile, the props and backstage crews, our joiners, the catering and security teams, and Mrs Pollock for her usual organisational wizardry. But of course, last and not least, it is the pupils to whom we owe the greatest thanks. The cast and crew did us all proud and worked tirelessly and energetically throughout the process, often pushing themselves out of their comfort zone and showing huge resources of devotion and commitment. Many congratulations are due to the entire team.
