Wet weather won’t dampen the spirit of Weekend Activities

"The weather didn't matter. We were together, we were dancing, we were having fun." The words of one of our middle school students this weekend following a last minute change of arrangements (because of inclement weather) to the Middle School Ceilidh: Under the Sea Adventure over the weekend. Students and staff responded with remarkable resilience, and the result was two outstanding evenings that showcase the breadth and strength of our weekend programme.

Middle School Ceilidh: Under the Sea Adventure -

The evening proved a masterclass in cross-year-group mixing. Watching older students guide the newer dancers, seeing friendships deepen across year groups, and observing the genuine enjoyment of learning new dances; it reinforced something crucial about our Saturday Night programme: it works because students of all ages come together.

Lower Sixth Form Team Quiz -

In Craigleith, our new Lower Sixth students experienced their introduction to Fettes social activity through a superbly run general knowledge quiz. Events Prefects Flora and Phillipp created an atmosphere that was competitive yet relaxed; no small feat when organising 13 teams.

The result was great team work and engagement, lots of laughter and fierce competition -  enough that the top 4 teams remained separated by mere points until the final round.

One new Sixth Former reflected: "I came here not knowing many people. Tonight, I got to know 8 team mates really well, competed fairly, and had genuine fun. I can't wait for the next one."

This weekend demonstrated something essential about boarding school life: it's not the perfection of the plan that matters, it's the resilience, flexibility and genuine commitment of the community. Whether dancing indoors instead of under the stars, or competing in a quiz with new friends, our students showed what we value most: the ability to embrace change, support one another, and find joy in shared experience.
