The Law Society
Younger members of the school with an interest in Law had the opportunity to hear from young OF Barrister, Benedict Morillo (PS-Mo 2006-2016) on Monday evening. Benedict studied Jurisprudence at Oriel College, Oxford along with his Bachelor of Civil Law. He now works as a Barrister for Crown Office chambers. Benedict pitched his talk excellently, beginning with an overview of the difference between being a solicitor and being a barrister. He talked about the different routes to qualifying and of his own career journey. He provided practical examples from cases that he had worked on and lots of encouragement. The students asked lots of questions and the answers provided them with information on the skills and aptitudes that lawyers need along with the importance of critical thinking and, for barristers, the need for public speaking practice and the benefits of debating. It was a pleasure to welcome Benedict back to Fettes, we were most grateful for his time.
