The Historical Society - Bonnie Prince Charlie

The Historical Society got off to a great start last night with the return to the College of OF Rory Hardie.Rory left Carrington House in 2014 and went on to study History at Aberdeen University. Last night he entertained a packed Upper with the narrative of ‘the ’45’: the last Jacobite Rebellion’ led by the ‘charming’ Bonnie Prince Charlie, on which he had written his dissertation. It is a fantastic story and was delivered with genuine enthusiasm and a close attention to historical accuracy. Rory was able to weave in several anecdotes of the Jacobite offensive and demonstrated the value of primary source material to unravelling a complex story. Not to be outdone, our own historians asked an array of intelligent and well thought out questions. It was a fantastic way to kick off the academic year.
