The Fettes College Festival Service of Lessons and Carols
This very special service takes place on the last day of term with the whole school gathering in St Cuthbert’s Church, set in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle, a very special location for us especially as the Minister, Reverend Sutton is himself an Old Fettesian. This year, perhaps heralding a new tradition, all pupils walked from Fettes to the church and even the drizzling rain couldn’t damped their spirits.
We were treated to an incredible service full of beautiful singing and choral collaboration of the highest order. As always, a special mention should be made to the Fettes Chapel Choir who sang beautifully. Readings for from the Head, our Head Boy and Head Girl and readers chosen from all the year groups, gave us time to reflect on the term just passed and the new year ahead (as well as getting us feeling incredibly festive and excited for the Christmas break).
Thanks to the generosity of all those who attended, Fettes raised an incredible £2100 for St Cuthbert’s Night Shelter for the Homeless on the day. Based in the city centre, St Cuthbert’s church plays a huge role in the fight against homelessness in Edinburgh and the collection from this years’ service will help provide much needed support for those less fortunate over the winter period.
If you weren’t lucky enough to join us this year, simply click through to the last image and you’ll be able to listen to our Chapel Choir perform Ave Maria (Anton Bruckner, 1824-1896). We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and we can’t wait to see all our Fettesians return to Fettes in the New Year!
