The Fettes College climbing wall is a fantastic asset within the school grounds to teach the basics of climbing and encourage students to pursue further climbing instruction. A typical climbing session includes a fun bouldering warm up, teaching the skills required for the belayer (a person who controls the safety rope ) and climber, then building confidence in that 2 or 3 student team. The climbing wall has the route range to introduce climbing but also stretch the more experienced climbers looking for an arm burning challenge. Rock climbing sessions can be extremely beneficial to target students confidence, trust, fitness and logical thinking.
While at Fettes College students can sign up for Sunday activity climbing, climbing as a games option or becoming a member of the Assistant Instructor Programme which progresses through all year groups.
All students should aim to conquer a route on wall during their Fettes experience. For more photos please click here.
