Festivities at Fettes

Below, highlights some of the festive events that have taken place over the last few weeks:

Carol Service

This very special service usually takes place on the last day of term with the whole school gathering in St Cuthbert’s Church, however sadly this year we were unable to go ahead with the same format due to restrictions. The school embraced the change, and each year group from 3rd Form through to U6th Form had their own service held in our beautiful Fettes Chapel. The U6th service was live streamed to parents so they could virtually join in. To watch this service please see below:

The Candlelit Eucharist.

The Candlelit Eucharist, held this year on 5th December, is one of the favourite Chapel services in the Fettes calendar. Conducted entirely by candlelight, our beautiful Chapel becomes even more atmospheric. Attendance is entirely optional but remains ever-popular with over 100 students joining for contemplation, reflection and celebration. The Chapel, now resplendent in its Christmas wreaths and swags, felt so festive as we joined together to sing Once in Royal David’s City and Away in a Manger. The Chapel Choir then sang beautifully, while the communion bread was distributed, and their rendition of Harold Darke’s setting of In the Bleak Midwinter was especially moving.

Thanks to the magnificently efficient Prefect Team who placed and lit the 420 candles that created the atmospheric glow.

All in all, it was a happy, relaxed event in extraordinary surroundings.

Christmas Lunch

The annual Fettes Christmas lunch is always a real treat which rounds off the end of term beautifully. Once again, our superb catering department impressed everyone from our youngest M Form in the Prep School to Upper Sixth as they enjoyed Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Christmas antlers, jumpers and hats were all the rage!
