Success at the CANSAT UK Regional Launch

Students working on the CanSat competition launched their devices yesterday at Strathaven Airfield, south of Glasgow. The competition gives students the opportunity to work on a small-scale space project by tasking students to design and build their own simulation of a real satellite, integrated within the volume and shape of a soft drink can.

The device must then fit all the major subsystems found in a satellite, such as power, sensors and a communication system, into this minimal volume. The Fettes CanSat teams witnessed their devices being launched on small rockets, with them returning to Earth using a parachute designed by the students.

Both teams worked very hard, and whilst one team had issues with getting their data to communicate back down to Earth, they both had excellent launches and landings of their devices.

Well done to all!
