On Tuesday 1st October 21 schools joined us for the Scottish Independent School Qualifying round of the Enterprising Mathematics in Scotland Competition. Well done to the Fettes team - James T, Jyoti S, Marcel L and Yichen S – who narrowly missed out on a place to move onto the next round.
The first of the qualifying rounds was a practical one with teams following instructions to build origami shapes - the bigger and more complex, the more points available. The room was a buzz of activity as teams grappled with the instructions to produce some impressive icosahedrons.
The was followed by a team and speed rounds which involved completing a number of mathematical challenges. The final round of the day was a relay with teams split into pairs to check the answers of increasingly difficult problems. The day ended with Senior Deputy Head, Mr Weatherby awarding the prizes for the four qualifying teams.
