Rugby Success – 5th Year in a Row

Team sports are the cornerstone of our sporting offering at Fettes so winning the rugby Whole School Eclipse Conference Award that champions every single player, no matter what level they are playing at, is a superb achievement.

Fettes has now won the title 5 years in a row which shows the commitment of staff and pupils throughout the school from the 3rd Form to the Upper Sixth. To receive the award, we welcomed Tony Begg, East Regional Manager of Scottish Rugby Union, to Chapel so the entire student body could be involved in the celebrations.

Duncan Harrison, Head of Rugby at Fettes College, told us:

“Winning the whole school award means so much as it reminds the boys that every single one of them has contributed. Their performance, whether in the 1st XV or colts, matters. It drives them on to try their best and compete for their school with pride. The influence and support of the 1st XV cannot be underestimated as they are superb representatives for Rugby at Fettes and take their responsibility of nurturing future talent within all school teams seriously”.

So how do the awards work? Fettes joins a conference group of six schools - High School of Dundee, Robert Gordon’s College, Glenalmond College, Loretto School, Bell Baxter High School and each school plays a series of games across each age group, with the results of each match contributing to the overall league table. This year there was only 1 point in it so it was a particular nail-biter!

Congratulations to all our rugby players who have contributed to this success!
