Richard Mill Appointed Housemaster of Arran House

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Mill to the post of Housemaster of Arran House, our Prep School boys’ house, from September 2020. Richard will take over from David Hall, who has run Arran extremely successfully for the past 14 years.

Richard has been a tutor in Arran for the last three years which has given him the opportunity to get to know our current boarding boys and learn about their ambitions and interests.

Before coming to Fettes, his previous role was as a Housemaster at St Mary’s School, Melrose. Richard has had, and still is, enjoying a very successful rugby career. He has played international 7s for Scotland in addition to spells at rugby clubs in Scotland, England and Australia. Richard is also the Head of Boys’ Games in the Prep School and has many other talents that have contributed greatly to day to day life at school. He has a love of music, enjoying writing his own compositions and playing the guitar, piano and bagpipes. Richard is also a very keen water sports enthusiast and likes nothing more than to be sailing around the west coast of Scotland during the holidays with his family and friends.

“I am very much looking forward to becoming Housemaster of Arran in September. I boarded from a very young age and had the time of my life! I want to give back all the positive experiences I had to the boys at Fettes. It is a real privilege to be so closely involved in the care of the boarding boys, particularly getting to know them as individuals, understanding their talents and passions and helping them to become good, honest young men within a happy, fun and positive environment.” Richard

Richard is married to Becky who is the current Director of Hockey and a much-respected teacher at Fettes College. Becky has also enjoyed a career as an international hockey player. They are both fully committed to working with the boys and boarding team to champion the qualities of respect, humility and honesty.
