In the week before Remembrance Sunday, our chapels focused on the 80th anniversary of 1945 – the experiences of students at the school and Old Fettesians at the front, the last casualties of the Second World War, and reflections on the attempts to build a better world through the United Nations, which included an invitation to students to get involved with our Model UN.

On Remembrance Sunday itself OF Rev Alistair Sutton OCM (JS-Gl 1979-1987) preached on the theme of the shared Christian values that sustained the OFs of two world wars, and reminded us of their names. Our choir performed Tavener’s ‘Mother of God, here I stand’ and the school gave rousing renditions of hymns including  ‘I vow to thee my country’ and ‘O God our help in ages past.’

After the Chapel Service, in a steady fall of rain, the President of the Old Fettesian Association, Vikki Halliday (née Cleghorn)(CE 1990-1991) laid a wreath on behalf of OFs, while Heads of School Henry L and Valentina L laid wreaths, following the two-minutes silence kept by the assembled students, staff, parents, OFs at the War Memorial.
