Remembering HM Queen Elizabeth II

As the Queen’s coffin made its final journey away from Scotland, Fettes College students lined the street to pay their respect to HM Queen Elizabeth II.

In July 1955, Fettes College was honoured to welcome Her Majesty in a visit to our school, only a few years into her reign. It was during this visit that our ‘Queen’s Lawn’ was officially opened and to this day it continues to be enjoyed by students, parents and staff as an important and central place within our campus.

Over the years in which HM Queen Elizabeth II was monarch, we have seen immeasurable social and technological changes and we have all been inspired by the way in which Her Majesty has been a steadfast and selfless role model across the globe, always showing strength of character and goodwill. Her sense of duty and service has been an example to us all. This sentiment was shared in School Chapel on Tuesday 13th September, by David McDowell, our Head of Politics in a moving reflection.
