Prep Schools’ Orchestra Day

Following a four-year gap, Fettes hosted Prep Schools’ Orchestra day with over 70 musicians coming together with the aim of meeting new people, experiencing new music and creating lasting memories.

With a packed schedule of orchestra rehearsals, and, for the first time, adding a choral element to the day, all the musicians learnt a new song from scratch, in 35 mins.

We squeezed in some lunch and tea  (and toasting marshmallows at firepits); the Concert showcased the collective and collaborative efforts of all performers -  all under the trusty baton of Prep School Director of Music, Mr Pettinger. The orchestra, most ably led by Hazel M, strode through, with confidence, repertoire by Charpentier, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Susato.

Director of Music, Mr Tully says “These youngsters did so much more than simply play the notes – there was much detail and contrast in dynamics and articulation. We were also treated to three Senior Soloists, Nanami M, Imogen P and Bethany W , accompanied by Mr Dundas. A great day was clearly had by all and we are already looking forward to next year’s event!”
