Just when you might have thought all our musical performances were being saved ‘til the last week of session, we had our Open Mic Night in the Theatre.
This was all carefully managed and under the artistic control of L6th, Isabella C. This short programme oozed musical and performing talent and raised vital funds for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. Our first performer belied her years and Lanre E, delivered a wholly committed performance of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’. Edward L and Matteo C showed off their low bass notes with ’16 Tons’. Sylvie M-L, who has developed something of a reputation for 100% engagement with her singing and her audience, knocked out a sensational ‘Take me to Church’. Alexander H. had his perfect night in at the piano with his own jazz piano solo on the ‘standard’ Autumn Leaves. Grace D. returned for her 3rd Open Mic night performance, with a captivating rendition of ‘Wildflowers and Wine’. Isabella herself, didn’t shy away from the limelight and sang, with Oscar P’s sensitive guitar accompaniment, Katie Noonan’s Page One, with really class and confidence. The final item saw Matteo and Edward return for a slightly unseasonal song from Tim Burton’s ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ – the typically quirky lyrics, melody and harmony were executed with panache and just the right amount of humour! A fitting finish!.
