On Wednesday 21^st January, some of our Sixth Form Classicists took the train to Newcastle for the annual Sixth Form Classics conference, hosted by Newcastle University.

Karina C (Lower Sixth Form Classical Civilisation and Latin student) reflected: We all absolutely enjoyed our day at Newcastle University! We started off our morning early, taking a picturesque train journey to Newcastle. After walking to the University, the first lecture we attended was about Sulla’s Dictatorship and the rise of Autocracy in Rome. This was very useful as we study the aftermath of Sulla’s regime. Then I attended a talk about the tricks of Cicero’s “trade”: ‘how to read Pro Roscio Amerino’, I personally found this really eye-opening as this lecture offered me a different perspective on the way we can look at this speech, which we study for Latin A Level. 

“ The afternoon brought two more lectures: I chose to listen to the lectures about Roman religion beyond the elite and the student experience in the late roman empire. We are so pleased to have this opportunity to get a feel for University-level teaching, all the professors were so friendly and passionate about their topic which made it very enjoyable to learn!”
