Mock General Election Polling

Our Politics and History department brilliantly staged a Mock General Election Polling this week, with some of our ‘student candidates’ representing each of their allocated parties with great eloquence, persuasion and a convincing case to encourage students and staff to vote for them!

The voting resulted in a hung parliament who, after negotiations, were unable to form a coalition and decided to govern as a minority party!  Although almost 70% of students who voted declared that they would have voted differently if taking part in a real election, this process and mock polling has helped many of our students to better understand the voting system and how politics works.

Thank you to all the ’candidates’ who took part, especially those who had to represent parties they did not align with.
