Lord's Taverners vs Scotland

A Highlight of the sporting calendar is the MCC match, an incredible opportunity for our cricketers to play alongside international cricket stars. Our groundstaff sprung into action and manicured a wonderful pitch and surrounds for this hotly-anticipated match between the Lord’s Taverners charity and a Scotland Select XI. The quality of the match befitted the occasion, with the Taverners featuring ex-England fast bowler Andy Caddick, former Essex stalwart Paul Prichard and former England rugby stand-off Rob Andrew. The Scotland Select team featured Scotland women’s cricket star Katie McGill and was coached throughout by Mark Coles, the national women’s team coach.

Scotland won the toss and elected to bat with Fettesians Ben A and Robbie S H impressing in a partnership of 66 runs for the 3rd wicket. Ben eventually reaching a well made 52. 15 year-old Fettesian Harry A also impressed with the bat as the Scotland team posted 162 for 3 in their 20 overs.

The Taverners’ innings were built around an excellent 46 by Matthew Swarbrick with a big hitting cameo by Caddick taking the game into the final two overs in the balance. Elliott Rousen’s left arm bowling was the difference though and the Scotland Select won by 11 runs.

Former England captain Mike Gatting umpired the match, providing some treasured advice for our young players and sprinkling a bit more stardust on a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment.
