Leavers' Recital

This much enjoyed event offers a chance for our Leavers to perform one last time. And so, in the increasingly familiar surroundings of Inverleith, St. Serf’s Church, our Pipe Major, Harry SC got us off to a flying start with a quartet of tunes on the bagpipes, delivered with confidence and aplomb! Renie G followed, with a rendition of Kurt Weill’s ‘What Good Would the Moon be’ with her trademark clear and unaffected tone sending her top notes soaring into the sanctuary with apparent ease. Hannah P, the first of three pianists, gave a sumptuous and sensitive performance of Chopin’s ‘Nocturne in B flat minor’.

The popular and very familiar figure in our Coffee Concert series, Matteo C, played the 1st movement of Hoffmeister’s Viola Concerto, replete with an extended cadenza. Cicy C presented Rachmaninov’s weighty ‘Prelude in G minor’. Henry A followed with a ‘lighter’ mood and played an arrangement of Bernstein’s ‘Lucky to be me’. Lucas R brought an equally lyrical tone with his performance of the slow movement of Beethoven’s ‘Pathétique’ Sonata in C minor and Sylvie ML. with all her stage-presence, gave a most memorable and wholly committed rendition of Hozier-Byrne’s ‘Take Me to Church’. Our final soloist of the evening was Edward L, who played Monti’s ‘Czardas’ with panache and character, not content with all that, he also started with a cadenza that he had written himself – impressive stuff! Lastly, the Upper Sixth members of the Chapel Choir sang Anton Bruckner’s timeless motet, Locus Iste.
