Every year our Lower Sixth language students attend a German and Spanish Immersion Day and this year Fettes College had the pleasure of hosting the event.

We welcomed students from Loretto School, Glenalmond College, Merchiston Castle School and Stewart’s Melville College to Fettes for a day of fun language learning, focusing on speaking and oral communication.

To warm up for the exciting day ahead, the first event saw our students take part in a Speed Dating session, which provided an informal opportunity to meet fellow students and quickly submerge themselves in their language of choice, while answering some fun quick fire questions.

During the day students were divided into small groups and moved through a series of expertly run activities. These activities were held fully in German or Spanish and were led by native language teachers, which provided a fully immersive experience. Benefiting from some engaging workshops, mock job interviews, language games and our very own Dragons Den, it was wonderful to see students gaining confidence throughout the day.

A massive thank you to all those who attended this year and we would like to thank our guest speaker Laura Westring for coming to present to our students. We were thrilled to see our students learn new skills, meet new friends and have some fun along the way.
