Members of staff, alumni, and parents of Fettes College have once again supported local applicants to Oxford and Cambridge.
Over the last week, 48 practice Oxbridge interviews have been scheduled for students from Boroughmuir High School, Broughton High School, Craigmount High School, Holyrood RC High School, James Gillespie’s High School, Portobello High School, Queensferry High School, St Thomas of Aquin’s RC High School, Trinity Academy, and Fettes College.
Physics was the most popular course with nine applicants. There were a further five each for both Medicine and Maths, as well as applicants for Architecture, Linguistics, Modern Languages, PPE, Economics, HSPS, History, Geography, Japanese, Engineering, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Fine Art, and English. The ratio of applicants for practice interviews at Oxford and Cambridge was equal this year.
Students found their practice interviews both informative and helpful, exploring and testing their academic credentials and ensuring their skills of communication were optimised.
Camilla Smith, Teacher of Classics and Oxbridge Coordinator at Fettes College, said, ‘With candidates already starting to receive invitations to interview from Oxford and Cambridge, preparation is key. At Fettes, we were delighted to support interview practice for the 31 applicants from Edinburgh High Schools and for our own 17 applicants from Fettes College. I am incredibly grateful to all the Fettes parents, Old Fettesians, and members of the Fettes academic staff and their contacts for generously offering up their time and expertise. I hope all the candidates can work on their feedback in their continued preparation and that this experience will give them the confidence to be at their best on interview day.’
‘Thank you very much for providing the support, it was very informative,’ Queensferry High School applicant for History at Cambridge.
