To keep our Upper Sixth A Level and IB students inspired, motivated and well prepared for life after Fettes, we have compiled comprehensive enrichment, pre-university and life skills programmes to augment the assessed grades preparations and evidence gathering.
Up to Half Term, A Level students continue with a full timetable of lessons while our IB students are involved in an enrichment programme for their HL subjects and will then start their activities programme in the two weeks before Half Term exploring outdoor education, expedition planning and service opportunities. Plans naturally need to vary for A Level and IB students according to the assessment programme required but after Half Term, all Upper Sixth will be part of our Pre-University courses following the same, successful format as last year. PSE skills specific to life after Fettes as well as a vibrant end of term programme will follow ensuring the very best send-off possible.
Every HL IB subject has created a programme of enrichment to hones skills, stretch knowledge and prepare students for the university courses they have applied for. We followed some of our IB enrichment students to take a look at what is involved.
English students will be focusing on ‘Translations’ by Brian Friel, ‘Normal People’ by Sally Rooney and ‘Jerusalem’ by Jez Butterworth. While our biologists hone their dissection skills with humanely killed earthworms! In Economics, students are undertaking behavioural economics experiment to evaluate behaviours when different incentives and penalties are presented and how they impact the decision-making process.
In Chemistry, students are extracting & creating Aspirin from willow bark utilising a variety of practical techniques as well as initial research and planning for their presentations.
This is such an exciting time for our leavers and we want to make sure they have a memorable, enriching, fulfilling and fun end to their time at Fettes.
