Hugely successful term for Fettes team sport
This has been a remarkably successful term of team sport. We must never get blasé and expect to be reaching and winning national titles, however, this current trend has been repeated this term and the whole school has enjoyed this success.
This year we had three teams representing hockey at Fettes on their respective Finals Days. The Under 15 boys started in style with a 4-1 victory over EA, followed by the Under 18 Girls who won a hard-fought match 2-0 against The High School of Dundee in their Plate Final. The Under 18 boys have been undefeated all term and swept EA away in their final 5-0 to claim back-to-back titles after an incredibly difficult draw.
The 1st X have had a brilliant season winning the Ryden Rosebowl for the second time in a row and then taking that form to the Nationals where they qualified for the 2nd Division and swept all before them to win the title – the first Scottish School to ever win down in Aldershot.
We were the only school to have teams in all four age groups of the Netball Scottish Cup. Whilst there were no senior wins this year, this bodes well for the sport's future.
The boys football team qualified for the Plate semi-final for the second year running and were narrowly defeated by the eventual winners Gordonstoun and the basketball team has been the best for some time and scored 93 points in a recent competitive match to demonstrate their quality.
Finally, our Fives players have been busy and successful with wins in the Cup and Plate at the Edinburgh Schools Championships being the undoubted highlight.
Away from competitive sport we have relaunched our sports scholarship programme to general acclaim with over 60 students now having access to individually tailored sessions and informative talks during the course of the term.
