Hockey World Cup success for our Upper Sixth student Marianna M who is also the Fettes1st XI Hockey captain. Marianna M has spent the last two weeks representing the Scotland U21 women’s hockey squad in the U21 World Cup in Santiago, Chile.

Marianna was one of the youngest and one of only two school girls in the squad but this hasn’t shown in her performance where she has played a key role in all of Scotland’s matches. 

A highlight was Marianna getting MVP in their game against New Zealand. A fantastic achievement. 

After losing two and drawing one game in the group stages, the team played Zimbabwe (4-0 win) and then New Zealand where they won on running penalties. This meant the team would play Chile in the 17/18th place competing for the Challenger Cup. Scotland came out victorious on running penalties, and we are all extremely proud of Marianna. Marianna will return to Fettes with some silverware and many brilliant memories and experiences, and we look forward to seeing her in action again in the Scottish Cup semi final next term.
