During the final four days of the Summer break, 46 Gold Duke of Edinburgh students embarked on their Assessment expedition - this included walking, canoeing, kayaking and sea kayaking. The trip was centred around Fort William, with groups heading North along the Great Glen, West along Loch Shiel, and walkers exploring to the East.
Having already completed their Gold Training expedition the students were afforded ‘Remote Supervision’, allowing them to own their expedition. Setting off in glorious sunshine and minimal wind, morale couldn’t have been higher. It didn’t take long for the variable Scottish climate to intervene though and the final two days were wet and windy with temperatures fluctuating throughout the day.
All students successfully passed their expeditions, working hard as a team, looking out for each other and being resilient as the conditions became worse. It was great to see Fettesian Spirit being displayed.
