Geography Trip to The Azores

During Half term, the Geography Department headed off on an adventure to the middle of the Atlantic and the beautiful Azores archipelago, and were based for 4 nights on the main island of Sao Miguel in the capital of Ponte Delgada. Mr Talbot, Head of Geography says “The diverse sub-tropical vegetation creates a vibrant ecosystem and the opportunity to visit Europe’s only Tea Plantation and a pineapple farm in addition to the numerous volcanic landforms - the thermal pools at Parque Terra Nostra, bubbling pools at Furnas and the various volcanic craters now filled by dramatic lakes. The variable weather meant that the itinerary was constantly changing and whilst we were not able to experience some of the amazing viewpoints, the sea swimming, visits to local towns and villages and the secret waterfall provided a glimpse of what the Azores has to offer.”
