Fettes wins U18 Scottish Hockey Cup Final for third consecutive year
On 14th March the U18 boys’ hockey team headed to Glasgow Green National Hockey centre to play in the U18 Scottish Hockey Cup final against Strathallan.
Moments before the end of the first half Fettes won a short corner. After a number of re-awarded short corners, team captain Edward M slotted a very well taken drag flick in to the bottom corner and the first half ended 1-1. In the second half Edward M scored his second goal of the game through a penalty stroke, and there was some outstanding play by Max L in midfield, Angus F and Wilfred T in the half back positions. The game was very much in the balance when Strathallan levelled the score through a penalty stroke. This, however, didn't phase Fettes as they kept pushing for a third goal and it eventually came after some excellent build up play from Edward and Cody, with Cody playing a great ball to Jamie B who deflected it high in to the net to make the score 3-2.
In the final minutes some individual brilliance from Cody led to him winning and converting a penalty stroke, and with a score of 4-2 Fettes retained the Scottish Cup for an impressive third consecutive year.
This was a fantastic team performance and was the culmination of a huge amount of dedication and hard work from the whole squad especially from our Upper Sixth formers who finish their Fettes hockey careers on a real high, with a number of the boys having won four national titles.
