Fettes Student organises community teen ‘Hackathon’

On Saturday 27th September, Fettes College student Chloe C organised and ran a highly successful community teen ‘Hackathon’ for young coders from Edinburgh and beyond at the CodeBase offices in Edinburgh.

Chloe, who studies A-Level Computer Science, came up with the idea herself, raising the required sponsors and partnership support to ensure a free event for the community, as well using her technical coding skills to lead the event on the day.

Dan Stewart, Fettes Head of Computer Science said, “The fact Chloe put this event together, all of her own effort and initiative, is the very definition of ‘giving back’ and we are so proud of her for that.  That she shared her love of coding with others in the local community through this free event is highly commendable and impressive.  Well done, Chloe!”

Siân Bevan, Events & Engagement Coordinator at CodeBase Edinburgh said, “Chloe organised a fantastic Hackathon for Teens on Saturday, creating a safe and welcoming space for people to try new projects and expand their skills. She worked with multiple partners and sponsors to ensure the event was free to attend, with food and swag for everyone. Her thoughtful organisation led to a successful day, with attendees travelling from as far as London to attend. Well done Chloe, from CodeBase."
