Following a spectacular Beating Retreat evening at Edinburgh Castle on Tuesday 20^th May, where Upper Sixth Form student and Pipe Major Nyasha W gave a once-in-a lifetime solo performance on the iconic ramparts of Edinburgh Castle, the Fettes College Pipe Band again took centre stage on Wednesday 21st May at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Performing alongside Highland dancers as part of the Beating Retreat, our Pipe Band delivered an outstanding performance and Lower Sixth Form student Harry SC had the special opportunity to perform solo from the roof of the Palace in a moving rendition of ‘Sleep, Dearie, Sleep’ which echoed across the Edinburgh evening sky.  

Harry says “I had the unforgettable honour of playing my bagpipes on the roof of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, while the Pipe Band Beat Retreat.  It is a moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life, as I have little doubt I would have been offered the opportunity anywhere else.”

Nyasha says “Performing solo at the Beating retreat at the top of Edinburgh Castle was a truly incredible experience. It is one I am sure to remember for years to come.”

We are immensely proud of Nyasha and Harry, and all our pipers and drummers who have made an exceptional contribution to two very special and significant occasions this week, as well as the other performances they have taken part in throughout the year including Tartan Day Parade in New York in April.
