Only school in the world to have two piping instructors taking part in prestigious competition
We wish the very best of luck to our Master in Charge of Pipes and Drums, Cameron Drummond, and our Piping Instructor, Alasdair Henderson, who are both competing in the prestigious Glenfiddich Piping Championships taking place at Blair Castle, making Fettes the only school in the world to have two piping instructors taking part in this competition. Only 10 of the world’s finest individual pipers qualify to play in this event. In August, Alasdair Henderson won the Senior Piobaireachd at the Argyllshire Gathering – a title he is immensely proud of. At the same gathering, Cameron Drummond won the Gold Medal and says, “As individuals, we are proud of our recent piping achievements and very much look forward to competing in the Glenfiddich Championships. As a team, we thrive in leading piping and drumming at Fettes College and in encouraging our Pipe Band to give their very best.”
Piping and Drumming is thriving not only at Fettes but worldwide, and our Pipe Band has the opportunity to perform at Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, as well as Beating the Retreat on our Queen's Lawn. Our Pipe Band is the current holder of the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships Junior A Trophy. In addition to competitions, international tours and functions outside school, the Prep Pipe Band, Senior Pipe Band and individual pipers perform at every major occasion during the school year.
